In collaboration with Musiques & Solutions, BMG and Universal Production Music France, Music Box Records proudly presents three expanded original motion picture soundtracks composed by Philippe Sarde between 1970 and 1990: Sortie de secours, La Travestie and La Tribu.
Sortie de secours (Emergency Exit, 1970) is the second score composed by Philippe Sarde, who was then still at the dawn of a prolific career. Released on vinyl when the film came out (and reissued on vinyl by Orbis in 2022), the LP quickly became a highly sought-after collector's item among enthusiasts due to its fleeting theatrical run. For this project starring singer Régine, produced by Alain Delon and directed by Roger Kahane, Philippe Sarde composed a tense score about a portrait of a woman who has lost touch with reality. With a slightly jazzy atmosphere, urban themes that oscillate between comfort and anxiety, and orchestral experiments that anticipate some of Sarde's future gems, Sortie de secours, available for the first time on CD, is worth (re)discovering as an essential milestone finally rescued from oblivion. The album also features two previously unreleased scores composed for the late Yves Boisset, presented here in complete versions. La Travestie (The Transvestite, 1988) unfolds a delicate and haunting score, full of melancholy and nuance, performed by the strings of the Orchestre de Paris and piano. Recorded in London under the baton of Harry Rabinowitz, the short dynamic and rythmical score of La Tribu (The Tribe, 1991) divides the film into chapters, expressing at once the urgency of the situation and the ruthless workings of the medical and political system depicted by Boisset. His style feels like a fusion between Astor Piazzolla and Stravinsky.
Supervised by Philippe Sarde and assembled by Édouard Dubois, the program has been fully expanded and remastered from the scoring session elements. The package includes a 12-page booklet featuring exclusive liner notes by writer Christian Lauliac and new comments by the composer. The CD release is limited to 500 units.
