Press Release from Music Box:
In collaboration with Alter Films and Gaumont, Music Box Records proudly presents two original motion picture soundtracks composed by Philippe Sarde in 1983: Premiers Désirs (First Desires) and Attention, une femme peut en cacher une autre ! (My Other Husband).
In 1983, Philippe Sarde worked on two seemingly different projects that in fact shared a common feature. Indeed, they were both portraits of women: girls in bloom for David Hamilton's tenderly erotic Premiers Désirs and a bigamous Parisian woman for Georges Lautner's romantic comedy Attention, une femme peut en cacher une autre !. With the assistance of orchestrator and conductor Peter Knight (Tess, The Purple Taxi…), Sarde composed two original scores that shine with their elegance and sophistication. Between Howard Shelley’s intimate piano and lush strings for Premiers Désirs, Philippe Sarde drew inspiration from impressionist masters like Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. For Attention, une femme…, Philippe Sarde composed two different themes, mirroring the dual aspect of this movie that is both comical and bittersweet. With its swirling classicism, the first theme is a playful scherzo composed like a concertino for flute and orchestra and the second theme is a tender ballad with jazzy accents. The score features the virtuoso soloists Hubert Laws on the transverse flute and Frank Owens at the piano, as well as the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Supervised by Philippe Sarde, the program has been assembled by Édouard Dubois and fully remastered from the original master tapes. The package includes a 12-page booklet featuring exclusive liner notes by writer Nicolas Magenham discussing the films and the scores. The release is limited to 500 units.
