Press Release from Howlin' Wolf:Howlin' Wolf Records proudly presents Christoph Allerstorfer's score for THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING (2022). The setting for the sequel to writer/director Lawrence Fowler's 2019 demon monster horror flick, THE JACK IN THE BOX, is the Rosewood Manor estate where Olga Marsdale, played by Nicola Wright, is dying from terminal osteosarcoma. The film has an unsettling sense of isolation, and while set in modern times, maintains an eerie period feel with superb set design, cinematography, and a creature that is, simply put, nightmarishly terrifying. The gripping story blurs the lines between the monsters in our darkest imagination and the real "monsters" that lurk everywhere. Fowler delivers a horror film in the mold of classic monster movies featuring a terrifying and relentless creature whose inhuman gurgling and rasping shrieks are the stuff of nightmares.
Breathing emotional depth and life into every scene in THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING, as only a great score can, is Christoph Allerstorfer's gothic symphony performed by a 42-piece orchestra, Big Island Orchestra Vienna. As Fowler ups the ante with a sequel that is unapologetically meaner, badder, and bigger than the original, Allerstorfer matches this force head-on with a score that eloquently soars to greater heights, hallmarking a sophisticated and lush approach that builds palpable foreboding dread, in exquisite style. To be treated to a horror movie and story of this caliber, with a grande score performed by an orchestra comprised of Vienna's best classical musicians, will leave you applauding.
THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING is lovingly dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and longtime Howlin' Wolf Records producer and promotional specialist Jeremy Hawkins by composer Christoph Allerstorfer and the entire HWR team.
