The composer relied heavily on the leitmotif method to structure his sprawling score, creating numerous memorable themes that are by turns majestic, homespun, sensual and threatening. For a touch of genuine Americana, he also wove Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer” into the fabric. When the music takes center stage in the picture, the result is thrilling! One of the most extravagant yet brilliant film scores ever written – restored to its full glory!
