Fun, tuneful Warner Bros. LP from 1963 gets world premiere CD release! Change of pace project for Intrada introduces popular early ’60s “teen-style” instrumental/vocal music to label. Soundtrack offers approximately 1/3 vocals, 2/3 instrumentals - including dramatic underscore - so change of pace is still not a big stretch! Norman Taurog directs, Earl Hamner Jr. scripts, popular “teen-oriented” stars of the era include Troy Donahue, Connie Stevens, Ty Hardin, Stefanie Powers, Robert Conrad, Jerry Van Dyke with “adult generation” represented by Jack Weston, Andrew Duggan. Frank Perkins offers instrumental score in meld of bright, danceable twists for small combo featuring saxophone, electric guitars and drums plus symphonic scoring for full orchestra. Vocals provide fun opportunity to enjoy performances from Troy, Connie, Ty, Jerry, Bob. All are full of fun! Highlight in Frank Perkins score includes “Palm Springs Scramble” in exciting, dynamic Peter Gunn style that segues into dramatic orchestral sequence. Spotlight also goes to richly scored, string-led “Prescription For Recovery” as well as full orchestra finish of “Live Young-Closing”. Interesting to have soundtrack featuring rollicking teenage vocal performances actually give larger portion of album to the orchestra. Scoring cues are longer than the vocals! Perkins was classically trained, became notable in television work, including iconic ’60’s hits Hawaiian Eye, 77 Sunset Strip. He also received an Academy Award-nomination for his musical supervision/scoring of the big-budget musical Gypsy starring Rosalind Russell. Entire Intrada CD newly-mastered from original Warner Bros. stereo album masters preserved in pristine condition from their vaults! Colorful packaging from Kay Marshall includes flipper-style cover. Choose between reproduction of original 1963 LP artwork or classic original movie campaign drawn from the 1963 theatrical one sheet. Either one puts this CD into nostalgic time capsule! Various artists perform their vocals, Frank Perkins conducts his score. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!
The 1963 Warner Bros.soundtrackalbum from Palm Springs Weekend was roughly one third songs (performed by popular young stars of the era) and two thirds original scoring by Frank Perkins—a meld of danceable num-bers and orchestral background music.
The album was originally mastered at Radio Studio in Hollywood, considered by many the finest studio in the Los Angeles area. Elvis Presley recorded there, as well as such notable artists as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday, The Beach Boys, Frank Zappa, Bing Crosby, Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, Peggy Lee and many other equally talented musicians ... including Igor Stravinsky.
This premiere CD release on Intrada presents the complete Warner Bros. album, newly mastered from the ¼” 15 ips stereo album master made at that legendary studio on September 19, 1963.
