  • Tech Talk From The Producer…

George Pal introduced Van Cleave, Stevens and Amfitheatrof to the science fiction genre, just as he introduced millions of moviegoers to the epic world of outer space. This historic collection of four George Pal film scores originates from diverse audio sources. The War Of The Worlds, The Naked Jungle and Conquest Of Space are mastered from 35mm protection copies of the music tracks at Paramount Pictures, in varying degrees of completeness. The Naked Jungle is the only title to survive in three-track stereo, one of the earliest scores so recorded at Paramount.

When Worlds Collide is presented in complete form, largely from acetates at the University of Missouri–Kansas City’s Miller Nichols Library Marr Sound Archives, where Leith Stevens donated his personal collection of scores and recordings. (Unfortunately, acetates for The War Of The Worlds did not survive.)

Years ago at Film Score Monthly I had the privilege of releasing long-overdue soundtrack albums for several Pal films: The Time Machine, Atlantis: The Lost Continent, The Wonderful World Of The Brothers Grimm, 7 Faces Of Dr. Lao and The Power. Now, with this Intrada 2CD set, nine scores to George Pal films are finally available. This remarkable body of work is a testament to George Pal, to the composers, and the spirit of wonder and imagination that has inspired generations across time and space. May it continue its journey!
