    Leigh Harline
    / Lionel Newman
Label: Intrada Special Collection Volume ISC 134
    Film Date: 1959/1956
    Album Date: 2010
    Time: 1:13:26
    Tracks: 24
World premiere release of two serious 20th Century Fox CinemaScope western soundtracks from the fifties! Richard Fleischer directs THESE THOUSAND HILLS with stars Don Murray, Richard Egan, Lee Remick, Stuart Whitman. Leigh Harline offers suitably expansive score with title song by Harry Warren, Ned Washington but keeps brooding drama of greed in focus with terse themes, dramatic motifs. In balance is beautiful theme for "Callie". CD includes title song sung by Randy Sparks (soon to be founder of New Christy Minstrels) plus additional versions by Bill Lee, lyricist Ned Washington himself. Robert D. Webb's THE PROUD ONES stars Robert Ryan, Virginia Mayo, Jeffrey Hunter. Tale of troubled town, hired guns, stalwart sheriff inspires legendary Fox music director Lionel Newman to compose deceptively simple main theme, heard via whistler over guitar, then increase score's density, dramatic flavor as story develops. Both soundtracks presented in excellent stereo from original 35mm elements assembled by Ron Fuglsby, restored by Mike Matessino, mastered by Dan Hersch. Julie Kirgo writes detailed notes, Nick Redman produces. Lionel Newman conducts both scores. SOLD OUT!
