MØRKELEG (BACKSTABBED)
Label: AHICD 004 Date: 1996 Tracks: 18 Time = 62:21
Original soundtrack to 1996 Danish horror film, released with English title as BACKSTABBED, directed by Martin Schmidt, written by Dennis Jürgensen, starring Line Kruse, Christian Grønvall, Mari-Anne Jespersen, Karl Bille. Alan Howarth draws upon lean electronic scoring concepts used with John Carpenter but infuses music with considerable melodic content. Ideas remain rooted in horror genre but melody adds offbeat touch. Howarth also keeps rhythmic ideas lean, often with mere repeating effects rather than dense, complex percussive figures. Results are music that unsettles without resulting in chaos. "Rules Of The Game" brings in signature style of repeating minor-third motif that plays as both primary melodic idea, accompaniment to other layers of solo figures. Keeping everything hesitant, tentative, spooky plays to good effect. Alan Howarth composes, records, mixes, sequences & synthesizer programs. Limited edition of 1000 copies.
