Original soundtrack from John Woo epic with Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi. Taro Iwashiro writes orchestral music with traditional western harmonic vernacular but keeps music from being dense, too thick. Light but propulsive rhythms permeate opening tracks with both upper, lower strings delivering rhythms, brass weaving melodic ideas within. Lengthy "On The Battlefield" beomes quasi-hypnotic sequence with bright trumpet fanfares breaking up insistent throb. Neat cue! Thematic elements take over during third & fourth tracks, ("Light Of The Evanescence", "Shadow Of The Evanescence") with emphasis on minor key, rich melody. Even here, flowing pace still happens with considerable use of eighth notes in melodic line to create forward motion. Closing tracks expand on melodic material with female Asian vocals (translations not included) combining with orchestra. Taro Iwashiro composes, arranges, orchestrates, produces. Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra performs.
