Original soundtrack from Mira Nair film about famous aviator, based on books by Susan Butler, Mary S. Lovell, starring Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor. Gabriel Yared approaches story with music both melodically inspired, gently reflective. Indian flute (played by Ashwin Srinivasan) adds subtle color to orchestra. Another gentle color is piano (played by composer), adding wistful feel to "Amelia and George", "No Longer A Passenger". Drama plays role as well with "Flight To Wales" offering music both suspenseful, dramatic. Album highlight is lengthy 11-minute "Final Flight". Rich, surging major-key material launches, considerable solo French horn ideas follow, slowly building momentum enters, cue rises in emotional volume, then finally subsides with gently reflective solo piano. Album closes in beautiful manner with main piano theme offering tinge of wistful sadness. Score recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Jeff Atmajian conducts.
