JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN, THE

JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN, THE
Download Artwork
    James Horner
Label: Intrada Special Collection Volume ISC 103
    Film Date: 1985
    Album Date: 2009
    Time: 0:43:09
    Tracks: 16
At last! World premiere of oft-requested James Horner soundtrack for Walt Disney depression-era adventure about two friends and wolf making long journey, directed by Jeremy Kagan, starring Meredith Salenger, John Cusack, Ray Wise. Horner creates arguably his most emotional, Americana-flavored score, fills it with lengthy trumpet solos, heartbreaking melodic lines, powerful orchestral sequences. Highlights abound but "Freight Train" stands out: as trio races to catch train, composer increases rhythm, density of cue, adds staccato brass, finally builds to exhilarating climax. Great moment! Rich minor-to-major harmonies, sweeping brass melody during "Farewell" yet more highlights. Horner, with long-time engineer Simon Rhodes, personally assembles CD just as he would have for major label in 1985, then allows 9 additional minutes of music to play as bonus after "Reunion-End Title". Rhodes masters CD at Abbey Road using Horner's own personal tape, the only surviving first-generation copy known to exist. Some minimal wear and tear is evident but crisp stereo sound prevails. James Horner conducts. Intrada Special Collection release limited to just 2500 copies! SOLD OUT!
