Original soundtrack from Scott Derrickson remake of classic sci-fi movie, starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly and ecological slant to tale. Tyler Bates creates new score with spotlight on rhythm, textural ideas. While motifs recur, broad themes are absent. Even harmonic vocabularly plays second fiddle to textures and pulse. Whether it matches high standards set by 1951 Bernard Herrmann original is up to listener. Tim Williams conducts Hollywood Studio Symphony, Hollywood Film Chorale.
