IRISH VAMPIRE GOES WEST, THE
Label: SR0901 Date: 2007 Tracks: 14 Time = 43:46
Composer-produced CDR of original soundtrack from what composer describes as a "fight between good and evil, with the heart of Ireland as it's prize." Expectant Irish fiddle plays pivitol role, as do bagpipes. But Gillioz has more: haunting bells, thundering tam-tam, off-stage tympani all contribute to world of faeries, mad scientists, castles & leprechauns. One neat idea has bagpipes, fiddle playing snippets of thematic material between dissonant string clusters, solo mezzo-soprano. Highlight is lengthy "Running Through the Emerald Isle". Here, ever-increasing density adds weight to dramatic cue. Irish ideas meld with traditional horror elements to create colorful musical tapestry. Then, mid-way, Gillioz abandons weight, works with delicate textures, subtle colors in dream-like fantasy. Soloists recorded in Switzerland.
