Long-awaited world premiere of complete original soundtrack to fourth Dirty Harry installment with Clint Eastwood as Detective Callahan. Lalo Schifrin scores with nods to earlier chapters but adds degree of symphonic color to music. Results are expanded dynamics from first two movies. (Third movie is scored by Jerry Fielding.) Winding flute solos, muted trumpet & horn licks, Fender bass all add to signature Harry sound but larger string section brings dramatic new dimension. Schifrin also offers incredible contrast with gentle "child-like" melody for killer on one side, intense string dissonances for brutality on the other. Highlights are many but one to make note of: soaring development of "Harry's Theme" on tenor sax plays over rich harmonies during "San Francisco After Dark". Another highlight: haunting trumpet line during "The Road to San Paolo" becomes brief soaring melody for orchestra. Yet more: agitated rhythms of violent back-to-back "Cocktails of Fire", "Robbery Suspect". Classic Schifrin! Complete score presented in stereo from original session elements. Authoritative liner notes from Nick Redman put icing on cake. Lalo Schifrin conducts, delivers a knockout!
