TIME TO DIE, A
Label: BSXCD 8836 Date: 1982 Tracks: 11
Original soundtrack from Matt Cimber revenge thriller from Mario Puzo story, featuring Edward Albert, Jr. as man in pursuit of justice, Rex Harrison as sadistic Nazi. Problematic picture was shot in 1979, shelved for four years, partially re-scored by Robert O. Ragland. Ennio Morricone melds two distinct styles: nostalgic melody, hypnotic suspense, then surrounds with wide array of material. "Recitation on an Ancient Harpsichord" is interesting: strings, oboe carry weight of music with melodic idea while harpsichord adds aggressive layer underneath. Intense use of double reeds (oboe, cor anglais, bassoon) over pounding piano during "Invasion" a dramatic highlight. Beautiful minor-key "Girl From Munich" theme plays in complete contrast. BSX CD offers same contents as original Cerberus LP, reportedly uses actual vinyl as source though packaging doesn't indicate this. In any case, audio quality is excellent. Ennio Morricone conducts. Limited edition of 1500 units.
