HEAVY METAL: THE SCORE
Label: FSMCD Vol.11 No.2 Date: 1981 Tracks: 27 Time = 72:40
Wow! Long-awaited CD release of Elmer Bernstein masterwork comes with original LP contents, previously-unreleased cues, generous packaging! Entire score anchors with flexible three-note motif that identifies all-important "green ball" linking various animated stories. Idea sometimes plays as mysterious solo line, as slightly-disguised variant (Harry Canyon sequences), as powerful statement for low brass, so forth. Lavish score is dynamic from get-go but heroic, emotional Taarna sequences (using theme originally written for SATURN 3) are undeniable highlights. CD presented in brilliant stereo from master tapes preserved by composer. Profuse color stills, literate notes complete incredible package. Elmer Bernstein conducts Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, scores a bullseye!
