Doug's Tech Talk
World premiere of intense, shattering score for 1973 Philip D'Antoni follow-up to FRENCH CONNECTION, furthering story of sidekick Roy Scheider, also starring Tony LoBianco & one of cinema's greatest car chases. Don Ellis avoids pop seventies flavor, writes extremely tough symphonic score for strings, percussion. CD also presents special release of unused Johnny Mandel work for same picture. Mandel offers charged, albeit more traditional concept of urban action tale. Minor deterioration in stereo elements appears but intrusions aren't severe. Additional bonus offers premiere of brief but sobering, serious Johnny Mandel score for top-drawer Paul Newman courtroom picture THE VERDICT. All three scores presented in stereo from original 20th Century Fox vault elements, produced under supervision of Nick Redman. Don Ellis & Johnny Mandel conduct. Special limited release of just 1200 copies! SOLD OUT!
