KING SOLOMON'S MINES
Label: Prometheus PCD 161 Date: 1986 Tracks: 22 Time = 71:33
CD from Belgium
Wow! Best release of exciting Jerry Goldsmith score to date! Jee L. Thompson filming of H. Rider Haggard chestnut with Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone offers meld of wild adventure, laughs. Goldsmith gets behind activities with propulsive main theme in heroic mold, beautiful love theme replete with transparent violins, warm harmonies plus aggressive action built from plethora of dynamic rhythms. Ultra-busy score belongs to elite group that includes SUPERGIRL, SWARM. At every turn, composer writes florid runs, trills, glissandi, you name it. Strings twirl, swirl, woodwinds flutter, race, brass leap, pounce. Prometheus assembly is ostensibly same as earlier Intrada release, adds four bonus tracks albeit these merely include raw take of Wagner "Ride of the Valkyries", drum source tracks plus edit of main title with finale. But complete score combined with solid packaging, terrific audio make Prometheus CD a must-own! Jerry Goldsmith conducts Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. Bullseye!
