Premiere of original soundtrack from mildly amusing Don Knotts caught-up-in-space vehicle. Vic Mizzy supplies most of the laughs via comedy scoring for orchestra. Jaunty main theme serves as anchor with bulk of score playing with it in variation. Mizzy brings variety of space-age colors into score (synthesizer, vibraphone, electric guitar) but gets considerable color from standard orchestra as well. While never too thick, composer enjoys bouncing lines from flute and piccolo to trombone and tuba, xylophone underneath at will. Ideas come quickly, don't stay in one place for long yet easy-going pace avoids frenzy or chaos. It feels organized! Mizzy certainly milks an admittedly catchy tune. Extremely thorough notes illuminate entire film production, scoring. Generous comments from composer a delight. Clean, quiet mono audio another asset albeit tracks are curiously weighted towards left channel throughout. Album concludes with souvenir featurette/interview hosted by Dick Strout. Funny, musical CD gets loving presentation from producer Taylor White, ace engineer Ray Faiola. Vic Mizzy conducts.
