JERICHO / THE GHOSTBREAKER

Label: FSMCD Vol.8 No.6
Dates: 1966/1965
Tracks: 22
Time = 79:55

Original soundtracks from two sixties TV shows. JERICHO (52:56) is short-lived 1966 WWII espionage series with Don Francks, John Leyton, Marino Mase. Goldsmith segment (A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread, and Pow!) offers suite for brass, woodwinds, percussion in martial mode. Main theme is energetic major-key idea with flowing melodic extension acting as secondary tune. Other segments offer music by Lalo Schifrin, Morton Stevens, Richard Shores, Gerald Fried writing in similar manner for variety of ensembles. CD also offers series theme by Jerry Goldsmith, alternate version by Lalo Schifrin. THE GHOSTBREAKER (26:50) is once-shown 1965 pilot for series that never happened. John(ny) Williams centers music around French horn melody with abundance of strings, harpsichord, organ, piano. Main theme is energetic, other ideas offer suspense, ghosty scares. Excellent sound from mono source material. Profuse notes from John Burlingame, Jeff Eldridge balance TV production backgrounds with literate musical insights.
