Two soundtracks from one of the great composer/director collaborations. Jerry Fielding gives Sam Peckinpah's BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA colorful below-the-border flavor with dark overtones, mirroring violent tale of American caught up in spiral of murder in Mexico. Fielding's "Main Title" features dynamic low brass ostinato punctuated by multiple snare drums, dissonant trumpet fanfares. Highlight: exhilarating finale with rushing figures in woodwinds, expansive triple-meter melody in upper brass over ever-present percussion cadence. As score closes, Fielding swells with piercing chords in full orchestra, crescendoes over still-rolling snare drums. With striking flourish, Fielding drops all instruments from final coda, lets percussion alone bring final measure to powerhouse close. Stunning, original idea!
