From all this, Lee Holdridge finds inspiration to create warm - incredibly gentle - portrait of America in late 1900's. Two themes dominate, several smaller ideas make appearance. For broader tale of Baum's fantasies, marriage, creative journeys, Holdridge uses warm melody in strings. For sadder story of Baum's 4-year-old niece Dorothy (real-life inspiration for Oz character) suffering fatal battle with illness, Holdridge draws on melancholy piano theme.
