Two remarkably similar scores for two diverse MGM movies. Both exhibit North in a symphonic idiom highlighting strings, woodwinds. Both scores are sparse, transparent. Both use melody but disguise it often behind fragile figures, gently piquant harmonies. Occasional muted trumpet compliments ALL FALL DOWN but intimate woodwind, string writing dominates. Only in later cues do brass punctuate. THE OUTRAGE adds percussive color to equally intimate fabric. The former nods to the South (Florida), the latter heads West (with touches of Mexico) but both remain joined at the hip. Both scores presented in excellent stereo sound from original master elements, produced by Lukas Kendall. Limited edition release.
